Beginning Monday morning, as the deadly tornadoes struck the regions of the South and Midwest including Arkansas, Oklahoma and Iowa, RedRover Emergency Services Manager Beth Gammie has been reaching out to offer RedRover Responders' support to our partners and animal shelters in the area.
RedRover Responders volunteers deployed to Arkansas, to assist The Humane Society of the United States in caring for over 180 animals found living in neglectful conditions on a Jefferson County property.
With over 3,000 trained and active RedRover Responders volunteers, it takes a special kind of person to stand out as a leader. Donna Lagomarsino is one of those leaders; she uses her special skills as an educator and workshop facilitator to train future volunteers. RedRover is able to bring animals out of crisis and into care through our network of RedRover Responders volunteers available on a moment’s notice to deploy. One of those volunteers is Paula Redinger who first deployed with us in 2003 to help the animal victims of the Southern California fires.
“This is their last night there.”
These were the words of Emergency Services Manager, Beth Gammie, the night before over 180 animals were seized from a suspected puppy mill in Jefferson County, Arkansas. Last week, RedRover assisted the Humane Society of the United States and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office along with various other volunteer groups in the rescue and care of the 121 dogs, 11 exotic birds, 19 chickens, 20 horses and multiple cats, rabbits and turtles that were removed from the Jefferson County property.
Since last week, RedRover has been assisting The Humane Society of the United States to shelter and care for 183 animals who were rescued from a suspected puppy mill in Jefferson County, Arkansas. Watch the video report below from KATV 7:
Last week, RedRover Responders volunteers answered a call for help to care for 190 cats, 11 dogs and various livestock at a shelter in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Our team was invited by American Humane Association to provide the loving animal care we’re known for – plus some much-needed elbow grease to clean, disinfect and repair the shelter so it could continue to be a resource for the community’s animals.
The hundred-plus dogs from the Olympic Animal Sanctuary had a long, long road to rescue. When they made it to their new location, RedRover Responders volunteers were there to provide emergency sheltering for these special dogs.
This past August, RedRover sent a team of volunteers to South Carolina to help care for more than 100 dogs who had been rescued from a puppy mill. One of the volunteers, Pamela Keefe, became particularly attached to two of the dogs, Marley and Cynthia, and returned to the shelter after they became available to adopt the two Shih Tzus.
