Last week, RedRover Responders volunteers answered a call for help to care for 190 cats, 11 dogs and various livestock at a shelter in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Our team was invited by American Humane Association to provide the loving animal care we’re known for – plus some much-needed elbow grease to clean, disinfect and repair the shelter so it could continue to be a resource for the community’s animals.
The hundred-plus dogs from the Olympic Animal Sanctuary had a long, long road to rescue. When they made it to their new location, RedRover Responders volunteers were there to provide emergency sheltering for these special dogs.
This past August, RedRover sent a team of volunteers to South Carolina to help care for more than 100 dogs who had been rescued from a puppy mill. One of the volunteers, Pamela Keefe, became particularly attached to two of the dogs, Marley and Cynthia, and returned to the shelter after they became available to adopt the two Shih Tzus.
Billie Bob was just a puppy when RedRover Responders assisted in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation dog relocation project in the summer of 2013.
Cold weather is no match for puppy kisses – just ask our RedRover Responders volunteers, who recently deployed to rural Quebec to care for 80 dogs and puppies rescued from a unsafe living conditions.
So far in 2013, our RedRover Responders volunteers have traveled to 12 deployments and spent over 3,800 hours of their own time to help nearly 1,100 animals in crisis.Â
Sometimes quiet words are the greatest gift to those in need.
RedRover Responders volunteers experienced the power of this gift after helping to care for hundreds of dogs rescued from a massive dogfighting ring last week.
At a temporary shelter in the southeastern United States, hundreds of dogs are receiving loving care and medical attention, perhaps for the first time in their lives, after their rescue from the second largest criminal dogfighting ring in the history of the United States.
Such a high-profile criminal case requires extreme discretion by everyone involved, including the seven RedRover Responders volunteers who were asked to deploy to the temporary shelter managed by the ASPCA.
