Sacramento, CA (February 4, 2020) – RedRover is proud to launch a new extension of their RedRover Relief Safe Housing program with $100K from an anonymous donor.
RedRover’s new Safe Housing animal shelter grants will allow animal shelters or rescue organizations to expand their community programs and create on-site housing to shelter animal victims of domestic violence. The one-time grants, up to $20,000, are offered to animal shelters or animal rescue organizations throughout the United States. To qualify for grants, animal shelters must have 501(c)(3) status and an MOU in place with one or more domestic violence agencies. Grant funds may be used to build additional space to house pets in a private area. When not housing animal victims, shelters can use the space as they see fit.
According to research conducted by Dr. Frank Ascione, as many as 71 percent of pet-owning women entering domestic violence shelters report their abuser injured, killed or threatened family pets for revenge or psychological control. Up to 48 percent of domestic violence victims reported delaying leaving their abusers because they feared what would happen to their pets.

Animal shelter staff have the experience to care for animal victims and give them the TLC they need to begin the road to recovery. We know that not one program fits all, so we hope these additional programs can get more people and their beloved pets to safety.”
