As the rising flood waters have devastated the town of Boulder, Colorado, and surrounding areas, RedRover Emergency Services Manager Beth Gammie has been reaching out to offer RedRover Responders‘ support to Colorado animal agencies such as PetAid Colorado, Humane Society of Boulder, the Larimer Humane Society and other Colorado rescues and shelters.
Beth reports:
“I have been reaching out to rescue groups and shelters in Colorado throughout this flooding, and have been recently updated that, at this time, emergency animal needs have been handled remarkably well by in-state agencies. I am not surprised, as Colorado has an exceptionally strong network of animal rescue and sheltering groups. We are keeping an eye on the situation, and if anything changes, the RedRover team is ready to deploy.”
In any natural disaster where animals are in crisis, RedRover actively monitors conditions on the ground to assess whether our assistance is needed: through direct outreach to affected agencies and communities, social media reports, contacts with local volunteers and reaching out to partners in the area.
At this stage, local authorities and agencies are conducting search and rescue and assessing both human and animal needs. Working within the FEMA Incident Command System, RedRover stands ready to deploy to Colorado when requested by appropriate authorities.
RedRover is receiving up-to-date information on animal welfare needs and coordinating with animal welfare partners to provide support for victims of the Colorado floods.
RedRover Relief grant applications are available to provide financial assistance for veterinary care to animals injured in this disaster.
