As a college student, cheerleader, and part-time worker, Kaitlynn didn’t have a ton of free time. But she really loved spending time with her adorable six-month-old kitten, Georgie. For him, her love and attention were unlimited.
“Georgie means the world to me. I got him when I was going through a breakup and wanted extra emotional support, but ever since then, he has been my best friend in the entire world. Georgie loves me so much, more than I ever knew was possible, and I love him so much too. I love to play with him after a long, stressful day. He is always by my side.”
Kaitlynn noticed one day that Georgie had pain in his leg. The veterinarian could not identify a fracture on the X-ray, and Kaitlynn and Georgie went home without answers. Over the next several days, his health continued to decline while his leg became more swollen. Nearly a week after first noticing his pain, Kaitlynn found an open wound on the leg that was draining pus. The source of the wound was unclear, but because it had progressed so much in just a week, the veterinarian recommended amputating little Georgie’s leg to prevent any complications.
Her part-time job earned her enough to afford rent and groceries, with a small amount left over. Kaitlynn was struggling, and her family wouldn’t be able to help out either. She had found the most affordable veterinary clinic to do his amputation surgery, and still, the quote was hundreds of dollars outside her limited budget. For now, Georgie was wearing a cone to prevent licking the wound and taking antibiotics and pain medication, but his amputation surgery couldn’t wait for long: the wound was getting progressively worse.
Kaitlynn found the RedRover Relief Urgent Care grant program online and applied right away. Along with what she could contribute from her savings, a grant would help Georgie have his surgery much sooner. Her application was approved when an On-Call Angel stepped up to make her Urgent Care grant possible. Even though she would be starting over from scratch with her savings, she was so grateful knowing that Georgie would still be happy and healthy by her side. Being so young, he adjusted to living with three legs easily, and just weeks after surgery, Kaitlynn had a wonderful update to share.
“I cannot thank you enough for the donations towards Georgie’s amputation! I am beyond grateful that he was able to have this lifesaving procedure, and I am happy to inform you that he is doing wonderful now! He recovered very quickly and is running, jumping, and playing just as much, if not more than before! Your organization is a wonderful thing. I am blessed to have received your help, and I hope you continue to help animals like Georgie in the future. You are amazing.”
Our community IS amazing! As a part of our compassionate supporters, you help families like Kaitlynn and Georgie in times of crisis. We hope you’ll consider becoming an On-Call Angel to make an individual difference for animals and protect their bonds with the people who love them.
