By Ketia Johnson, Outreach Manager and RedRover Responders Team Lead –
For our first deployment of 2026, our RedRover Responders volunteers joined our partners, Humane World for Animals, to welcome into shelter more than 100 cats rescued from an alleged cruelty case. Our team of dedicated volunteers worked tirelessly to prepare for the incoming cats by cleaning and setting up cat enclosures, preparing enrichment and food, and stocking up supplies.
Once projects and preparations were completed, evening arrived quickly and the cats began to arrive at the shelter. RedRover Responders volunteers worked hand-in-hand with Humane World for Animals’ Animal Rescue Team staff and volunteers to carefully move the cats from the transport vehicles and into their shelter enclosures.
Cats rescued from these types of situations are often very scared, stressed, distrustful of humans, and potentially experiencing illness, injury, or discomfort. We’re extremely grateful that our compassionate volunteers are careful, conscientious, and efficient when providing care for newcomer kitties.
Our RedRover Responders volunteer team did an excellent job prioritizing each and every cat’s wellbeing – physically, mentally, and emotionally – by working mindfully. This extra attention and awareness paid off, as many of the cats eventually started venturing out of their hidey boxes, sharing adorable meows during feeding time, and asking for extra treats. It is such a gratifying feeling to have contributed to these cats’ newfound feelings of safety, trust, and love.
Thank you to Humane World for Animals for rescuing these lovely felines and providing them with a brand new start on their next chapter in life. And of course, thank you to our amazing RedRover supporters! We could not provide this care without the wonderful support from people like you, reading and sharing our stories, volunteering with us, and donating.
