El Dorado County, CA (May 8, 2019) – RedRover, a national nonprofit animal welfare organization, is on the ground May 8 – 14 to help El Dorado County Animal Services provide daily care and comfort related to a large animal rescue effort involving neglect. More than 300 animals were rescued, including 100 dogs and other animals.
“This is one of the largest animal removal operations that I’m aware of in El Dorado County,” said Henry Brzezinski, Chief of El Dorado County Animal Services.
The animals are being cared for at El Dorado County Animal Service shelters in Diamond Springs and South Lake Tahoe. RedRover is sending 11 RedRover Responder trained volunteers for seven days to help care for the animals. The RedRover Responders volunteers are traveling from across California to assist during this crisis.
“We are eager to help El Dorado County care for this huge influx of animals,” said RedRover Director of Field Services, Beth Gammie. “RedRover Responders are committed to giving the care and comfort these animals so desperately need.”
Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from cruelty and neglect cases or natural disasters. The volunteers provide a skilled and compassionate workforce which enables a jurisdiction to address animal cruelty and neglect in their community.
With more than 4,000 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, RedRover can deploy its volunteers quickly when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving large numbers of animals. In its 31-year history, RedRover has responded to more than 200 natural disasters and other crises around the country including the Camp Fire, Sacramento County Rabbit Rescue, Hurricane Harvey, the Carr Fire, the Butte County Wall Fire and many more.
