RedRover assists the HSUS with the animal care of 4,000 beagles removed from a breeding facility
July 22, 2022 – The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has asked long-time partner RedRover to assist in the historic effort to transfer beagles who are part of the population of approximately 4,000 dogs being removed from the Envigo facility in Cumberland, Virginia. RedRover is helping the HSUS provide care to beagles at their care and rehabilitation center as the dogs await transport to shelter and rescue partners. The Envigo facility bred dogs to be sold to laboratories for animal experimentation.
RedRover sent four RedRover Responders trained volunteers led by a RedRover Team Leader to assist in the care of 201 beagles, including moms with litters of puppies, from the first group of dogs removed from the facility.
“We are thankful we can assist the Humane Society of the United States in caring for these dogs who have likely only known life in a large-scale breeding facility,” said RedRover Field Services Director, Beth Gammie.
With more than 4,600 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, RedRover can deploy its volunteers quickly when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving a high number of animals. The volunteers provide a skilled and compassionate workforce which enables a jurisdiction to address local cases of animal cruelty and neglect.
In its 35-year history, RedRover has responded to more than 245 natural disasters and other crises around the country including Hurricane Harvey, the recent Northern California wildfires, Superstorm Sandy, and many more.
