Our RedRover Responders team began exploring our Community Programs work back in 2021. With a background in shelter management and animal control, our Field Services and Community Programs Manager, Devon Krusko, knew firsthand the challenges many pets and their families face surrounding resources and access to veterinary care.
Heading into our fourth year of this work, our commitment to providing free veterinary care and improving quality of life for both people and pets has expanded to more than six projects a year in collaboration with local organizations across the country. This year represents our most extensive planned work to date, with nine projects providing a variety of services, including lifesaving vaccines, flea and tick prevention, spay/neuter vouchers and clinics, pet food and pet supplies, and fencing for family dogs that live outside. Heading into summer, we’d already reached more than 1,500 pets and their people!
Recently, we were thrilled to bring our wellness clinic events to New England for the first time, providing two days of free services in two separate locations in Vermont. We partnered with a new non-profit for the first time, the Mobile Pet Food Shelf, a wonderful group of folks that brings pet food and pet supplies to families in need. With immense enthusiasm and help from other local Vermont community members, 10 RedRover volunteers worked together to provide vaccines for 342 animals! Hosted by the Winooski Senior Center and the Northside Baptist Church, the need was so great, and the line of cars so long, that we had to cap how many folks we could serve, running out of vaccines, flea/tick prevention, and pet food and supplies. Families waited for hours (many in rainy and windy weather!), and they were so grateful for their pets to receive a veterinary exam and core vaccines to protect their pets’ health!
We’re proud to offer expanded programs across the country and remove barriers to vet care, working to keep pets with their people and families happy and healthy!
