As soon as Joshua laid eyes on Opal, an Alaskan Malamute mix given to him by his former boss, he thought of Opal as a member of his family. In his journey with depression and anxiety, Opal and his brother, Loki, provided invaluable emotional support to Joshua. After moving to a new state, money was tight for Joshua and his fiance, so to save on rent, the two of them lived with a roommate. When their roommate physically assaulted Joshua, Opal was caught in the crossfires and had his tail slammed in the door.
After the heartbreaking injury, Joshua and Opal went to the vet and tried to address the injury to Opal’s tail with stitches. However, it soon became clear that stitches wouldn’t be enough – Opal’s tail would need to be amputated. To help fund Opal’s surgery, Joshua did an internet search and found the RedRover Relief Urgent Care grant. After undergoing surgery, Opal came home and was greeted by Loki, thrilled to be back together with his beloved brother.
