Attending Animal Care EXPO in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania felt like a whirlwind! I was so thankful I could connect with so many of the attendees and exhibitors at the conference to learn about what it is that they do to help animals, and how our work may be related or overlap as I handed out our “Shed Happens” t-shirts (which seemed to be a big hit). Making those connections was truly worth the long journey from California to get there, as well as spending quality time with my colleagues who reside in other states. Attending Animal Care Expo as part of the RedRover team is always so energizing. I love connecting with animal welfare professionals from across the country at the Kind News magazine table and having thoughtful conversations about humane education. This year, co-hosting a roundtable on Youth Education and Engagement was especially rewarding because it brought together so many inspiring ideas and shared experiences around empowering young people to create compassionate change in their communities. I left Expo feeling grateful for the opportunity to strengthen connections across the field and be part of a community working together to create a kinder world for both people and animals.
Animal Care Expo 2026 brought the animal welfare community together in the best possible way – through shared purpose, learning, and connection. Hosted in Pittsburgh, this vibrant gathering welcomed more than 2,800 professionals and volunteers from around the country, all eager to exchange ideas and spark inspiration.
RedRover Readers team members Minhhan Takemoto and Heidi Colonna hosted two engaging morning roundtables, sparking thoughtful discussions around humane education and how to expand its impact. Meanwhile, the RedRover booth was buzzing with energy as 500 “Shed Happens” t-shirts found happy new homes.
Staff attended sessions led by some of our favorite partners in animal welfare, including Michelson Found Animals Foundation, Ruff Haven Crisis Sheltering, San Diego Humane Society, and more. These moments strengthened relationships and reinforced a shared commitment to supporting both people and animals.
Reconnecting with partners, meeting new faces, and sharing a collective passion for animals made this event truly unforgettable!
The RedRover crew joined together in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for Animal Care Expo, hosted by our friends, Humane World for Animals. This year’s event welcomed more than 2,800 attendees from the United States and beyond. We were excited to participate as exhibitors and connect with animal welfare professionals and volunteers from a variety of backgrounds. Many attendees stopped by our booth to talk about our shared passion for supporting both people and pets in crisis, and were eager to learn how they can get involved to support their communities.
I was especially grateful to attend the annual Rural Humane Summit during the conference, where organizations of all sizes joined together to discuss the unique issues currently facing shelters in rural areas, and how stakeholders can advocate and provide assistance.
We are already looking forward to next year’s Expo and we hope to see you there!
