As Kind News™ magazine hits the desks of thousands of children, so are stories of kindness, activities that set it in motion, and tools to help teachers make it all stick. What’s in our back-to-school issue, and how can you inspire kindness in the kids near you?
What’s better than a warm and fuzzy welcome when you’re new to town? Our September/October issue has a pet-themed, DIY welcome kit activity. Share the issue with a child, teacher, or parent and get kids crafting! Then, talk with kids you know about other ways they can help out in their neighborhood and community, such as donating an item on an animal shelter’s wishlist, helping a neighbor who needs a hand with dog walking, or giving a friend a kind note – decorated with an animal drawing of course!
Kind News features some pawsome role models, including Norah, a crafty sixth grader who makes bracelets to support animal organizations, and one family that adopted a declawed kitty named Peaches. Share these stories, and don’t forget to share your own kind deeds with children you know!
In this issue, we’re recommending “Let’s Get a Pup!” Said Kate by Bob Graham and The Wild Robot by Peter Brown, now a Netflix movie. Check out our full Recommended Book list for more humane-themed titles. Want to inspire empathy in youth groups near you with good books like these? Take our RedRover Readers On-Demand Workshop on how to lead book-based discussions with children. You can also ask your local children’s librarian to make a display of great animal books such as these!
