This October, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, RedRover is hosting a powerful new webinar series highlighting the vital role pets play in the lives of survivors – and why creating pet-inclusive solutions is critical to safety and healing. The series kicks off with a dynamic panel discussion on Tuesday, September 30, featuring leaders from Purina’s Purple Leash Project, DomesticShelters.org, the National Organization for Victim Advocacy, and Alexandra House. Together, they’ll explore the national scope of including pets in sheltering plans and share how individuals and organizations can advocate for stronger, more compassionate resources in their communities.
Following the panel, RedRover will host four weekly “Lunch and Learn” sessions designed to educate, inspire, and empower. On October 8, join a conversation with San Diego Humane Society’s Stacey Zeitlin and Dr. Sarah Reidenbach of Ruthless Kindness about how veterinary and animal welfare professionals can strengthen community wellbeing. On October 15, staff from Safe Voices in Maine will reveal how pet-friendly sheltering extends far beyond shelter walls, offering wide-reaching benefits for agencies and survivors alike.
On October 24, RedRover and the National Academies of Practice will co-host a special two-hour session tailored for students in social work, veterinary medicine, and public health – helping the next generation of professionals prepare to support survivors and their pets.
Finally, on October 29, survivor and advocate Candice Amundson will return to share her powerful personal story and why making shelter spaces pet-inclusive is a life-saving necessity.
This unique series offers something for everyone – survivors, advocates, students, service providers, and community members. Together, we can break barriers, expand support systems, and create safer futures for survivors and their beloved pets. See the full DVAM schedule at RedRover.org/DVAM.
