An interview with animal lovers like you: Josh and Melissa Levine
Just like the animals they help, every RedRover On-Call Angel is unique. However, these special donors all share the desire to make a true impact in the lives of animals. Last month we spoke to Josh and Melissa Levine who joined our On-Call Angel program to do just that.
When Josh first contacted RedRover in October 2014, he was actively deployed overseas and had been using his free time to learn about RedRover. What he learned inspired him to get involved. As soon as he got home, he and Melissa signed up to become On-Call Angels, donors who make a pledge to save the life of an animal in need. This is their story:
When and why did you first become a donor to RedRover?
J: I always had animals growing up but it wasn’t until I met Melissa that I started getting involved in helping animals through charity. It was time to renew our CFC contributions last year when we first heard of RedRover.
What inspired to you to support RedRover?
J: We looked up RedRover on Charity Navigator, visited your website and read about all your programs. We read about your RedRover Relief program, discovered the On-Call Angel program and wanted to learn more.
M: We felt that supporting RedRover would be more than just giving money. We felt our support would really make a difference. When we were browsing your website, we loved the social media, updates and the rescue efforts. Josh showed me the puppy mills videos and we were impressed. We especially liked the domestic violence programs because when you think of those situations, most people don’t realize how big of a role animals can play in people’s lives.
Are you involved with animals in your community?
J: We would like to volunteer but just can’t find the time. Being in the military is a very rewarding experience, but is also difficult at times with repeated deployments, time away from family and just general day-to-day functions. This is why I feel that the On-Call Angel program is a great benefit to us in that we can commit money in lieu of time.
What would you say to someone who is thinking about becoming an On-Call Angel?
M: When you donate through the On-Call Angel program, you’re making a very direct impact on a specific animal. We like being able to see the actual animal we are helping, receiving the picture and knowing we are helping that animal. It’s not a stock photo; you’re not donating to hundreds of unknown animals; you’re donating to that one animal. That animal may be all that family has, and you are helping that family stay whole.
You can be the On-Call Angel that an animal needs
Do you want to help a specific animal in need? Do you want to receive a photo of that animal and an update from the animal’s family so you can see just how your donation has made a difference? The On-Call Angel program might be for you! Visit RedRover.org/On-Call-Angels to request more information.
