This is a happy ending story you made possible – you helped save Rick’s best friend.
“I never thought I was a ‘cat guy’ until Jack found me,” Rick told us. “Jack looks at you and you can tell he’s thinking. He’s smart. My friends laugh at me when I tell them me and my cat communicate – but we do.”
They had been friends for eight years, and Jack’s affection helped Rick through some of the roughest parts of his life – loss of income, loss of home, divorce. But sweet Jack was unconditionally there for Rick through it all. “I have developed an unexplained and real connection with this animal that I have with no other creature,” Rick shared.
When Jack developed a life-threatening urinary blockage, Rick was terrified that he might lose his beloved pet. Urinary blockages are an issue our RedRover Relief case managers see frequently in male cats. Due to inflammation, the cat’s bladder cannot empty. This causes a build-up of toxins in the system, stressing the cat’s kidneys, and can lead to kidney failure and possibility of the bladder rupturing.
With the financial challenges Rick had recently endured, he simply could not afford the costly emergency surgery. Rick applied for a RedRover Relief grant, which provides financial assistance and resources for emergency veterinary care. Laurel, their RedRover Relief case manager, was able to provide a RedRover Relief grant to help cover the cost of Jack’s treatment.
After a few days of hospital care, a healthy Jack was able to go back home with Rick. Jack will need to eat special food from now on to reduce the chances of a urinary blockage happening again. We’re happy to share that he’s feeling much better now – and it’s because of your support.
