After all Michael had been through, he couldn’t imagine losing his friend Boo Boo, a therapy rabbit. As an Army veteran and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) sufferer, Michael depends on Boo Boo for help through tough times. “Boo Boo was given to me as part of a veteran program to help with PTSD,” Michael said. “He is house-trained and is with me 24 hours a day. He is a vital part of my life and interacts with me throughout the day and helps me through PTSD episodes. I would never had been able to get through them without him.” But, when a dangerous abscess on his jaw threatened Boo Boo’s life, Michael, on disability from a previous back injury, needed some serious help. “I love my rabbit more than anything and desperately need to save him.”
Even with limited funds, Michael puts Boo Boo first for his care, tucking away $10-20 from each disability payment to save for emergencies. “I have managed to save $200 from my disability pay and used it all for emergency treatment for Boo Boo,” Michael told us. He just needed a little more help to save his friend. “I am desperate to save my rabbit’s life. He is a vital part of my life and recovery with my disability and PTSD.”
Michael submitted a RedRover Relief application for financial help and Rachel, a RedRover Relief case manager, answered the call for help right away. “When I read Boo Boo and Michael’s story, I knew we had to find a way to help,” Rachel reported. “We witnessed how strong the bond is between these two and how much Michael needed Boo Boo in his life – so we took action.”
We contacted Diana, one of RedRover’s special On-Call Angel donors, to see if she could help us with Boo Boo’s emergency treatment. With Diana’s generous pledge, we were able to provide Michael with a RedRover Relief grant right away so he could get Boo Boo the surgery he needed to survive.
After a few scares but an overall successful surgery, Boo Boo pulled through and is now healthy and abscess-free. Michael says, “If it wasn’t for the generosity of RedRover, Boo Boo would never have survived. He is my little miracle. I want to thank you with all my heart for helping me save his life. It would have been devastating to have lost him.”
“We could never have made a miracle like this possible without On-Call Angels like Diana and people that support our RedRover Relief program,” Rachel told us after hearing of Boo Boo’s successful surgery. “Generous people who help with cases like Michael and Boo Boo’s enable us to continue helping people and their pets that are truly in need. I can’t put into words how thankful I am for people like that.”
Thank you to supporters like you that make happy endings like this one possible.
