Since Monday, RedRover has been monitoring conditions in Oklahoma and offering support from RedRover Responders to local shelters, rescues and affected agencies.
Early this morning, Emergency Services Manager Beth Gammie was invited directly by the ASPCA to take on a special role in the reunification process at the Central Oklahoma Humane Society (OK Humane). OK Humane has delegated the ASPCA to assist with shelter operations as the facility experiences an influx of animals affected by the devastating tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma.
Beth will be working closely with animal welfare partners on the ground and will more immediately be able to assess where other help may be needed from RedRover Responders.
Since the tornado, local animal control officers with the City of Oklahoma City have brought 110 lost, stray, injured or displaced pets to OK Humane where they are being assessed and cared for. In addition to specifically requesting Beth’s expertise, the ASPCA has also enlisted the assistance of IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare), Code 3 Associates Animal Disaster Response and SAWA (Society of Animal Welfare Administrators) for this joint disaster relief effort.
With Beth involved in operations on the ground, we will provide additional updates to the situation in Oklahoma as needs become more known. RedRover continues to stand ready to deploy if requested by authorities.
