You may recall the story about Princess, the beloved companion of a homeless man named David in Sacramento, California. They are well-known and liked by area locals, including two downtown workers, Erika and Dorothy. Princess was having trouble walking; David was able to get her to a veterinarian where she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and given pain medication. This treatment didn’t seem to help and her condition continued to worsen. Finally, Princess collapsed in front of Erika’s office building and refused to get up. Erika took Princess to her own vet and x-rays were able to show that she did not have hip dysplasia, but ruptured cruciate ligaments in both knees that needed surgery. Princess is currently staying with Erika to ensure that no additional injury is done to her knees while she is waiting for surgery, but she still gets frequent visits with David. Erika and Dorothy have done a wonderful job of fundraising, and RedRover has approved a RedRover Relief grant to help get Princess’s first of two surgeries scheduled. David, who once thought euthanasia was the only option for his best friend, is so grateful for the community of animal lovers that have come together to help Princess.
