Safe Housing Grants Give Second Chance to Survivors’ Pets

Sacramento, CA (May 2, 2023) – Did you know that only about 17% of domestic violence shelters in the nation are able to house survivors’ pets?

RedRover’s Safe Housing grants enable domestic violence shelters to create pet-friendly spaces for survivor’s pets. Safe Housing grants are available up to a maximum of $60,000 per grant. Funding may be used to build or renovate spaces dedicated to housing survivors’ pets, create a foster program to care for survivors’ pets, pay for temporary boarding for survivors’ pets, or a combination of services that will best serve the community. Grant funds may also be used for routine veterinary care, emergency veterinary care, and pet deposits.

With the generous support of PetSmart Charities, Greater Good Charities, and help from Purina, we work to raise awareness about the need for more pet-friendly spaces at domestic violence shelters. Our goal is to help ensure 25% of domestic violence shelters are pet-friendly by 2025 through our 25×2025 campaign. Stay tuned for our official 25×2025 campaign launch in July and sign-up to get involved at 25by2025.org!

Safe Housing grant application deadlines are March 1, June 1, and September 1. To learn more, visit: RedRover.org/SafeHousing.
