Deployment Gives Sacramento SPCA Workers Relief and Animals Additional Comfort

Sacramento, CA – RedRover, a national nonprofit animal welfare organization based in Sacramento, will be on the ground March 26-31 to help Sacramento SPCA provide daily care and comfort for 286 rabbits seized by the Folsom Animal Control from a single Folsom, California home, where the animals were living in unsanitary conditions.

RedRover will send 5 RedRover Responders volunteers a day for six days to help Sacramento SPCA care for the Angora, Himalayan, Lionhead, Lop and various other breeds of rabbits. The RedRover Responders volunteers are traveling from across Northern California to assist during this crisis.

“We are eager to help Sacramento SPCA staff care for this huge influx of rabbits,” said RedRover Director of Field Services, Beth Gammie. “RedRover Responders are committed to not only providing respite for the Sacramento SPCA staff, but giving comfort in this time of crisis until the future of the rabbits is determined by the Folsom Animal Control.”

Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from cruelty and neglect cases or natural disasters. The volunteers provide the workforce which enables communities to address their animal needs swiftly and efficiently.

With more than 3,900 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, RedRover can deploy its volunteers quickly when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving large numbers of animals. In its 30-year history, RedRover has responded to 187 natural disasters and other crises around the country including Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Katrina, the Oroville Dam crisis, the Butte County Wall Fire and many more.
