Sacramento, CA – RedRover, a national nonprofit animal welfare organization, is on the ground September 17 through September 26 to help American Humane provide daily care and comfort for 255 small-breed dogs seized from two horrific puppy mill operations.
A Washington state deputy said, “The condition in which the animals were found was deplorable. Years of urine and feces build-up, dangerous ammonia levels, caged litters and severely ill dogs, even a carcass. I cannot imagine the suffering and neglect these animals were subjected to. This was the worst case, with the largest number of dogs I have ever handled.”
RedRover is sending 17 RedRover Responder trained volunteers for over a week and a half to help care for the dogs. The RedRover Responders volunteers are traveling from across California, Washington, Oregon, Texas and Pennsylvania to assist during this crisis.
“We are eager to help American Humane care for these neglected dogs,” said RedRover Director of Field Services, Beth Gammie. “RedRover Responders are committed to not only providing respite for one of our fellow National Animal Rescue Sheltering Coalition partners, American Humane, but also giving the care and comfort these dogs so desperately need.”
Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from cruelty and neglect cases or natural disasters. The volunteers provide a skilled and compassionate workforce which enables a jurisdiction to address animal cruelty and neglect in their community..
With more than 4,000 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, RedRover can deploy its volunteers quickly when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving large numbers of animals. In its 30-year history, RedRover has responded to 189 natural disasters and other crises around the country including Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Katrina, the Carr Fire, the Butte County Wall Fire and many more.
