Six-Day Deployment Will Bring Assistance to Animals and Relief to Workers

Canton, Texas – RedRover, a national nonprofit animal welfare organization, will provide shelter management assistance for more than 60 animals who were displaced by the recent tornadoes in eastern Texas and are now residing at the City of Canton’s Animal Shelter.  RedRover was asked by the shelter to provide support as their shelter is near capacity.

Over the next few days RedRover will deploy 14 RedRover Responders volunteers, led by their Team Leader, to the shelter to help care for these animals.  The volunteers are travelling from Pennsylvania and Louisiana, and include locals who reside in Texas.

“We are eager to help care for these animals who still haven’t found their way home weeks after these tornadoes have passed,” said RedRover President & CEO Nicole Forsyth.  “And we are thankful for the opportunity to give a few days of relief to these shelter workers who have been working around the clock to make sure these animals receive the care, comfort and basic services needed to survive.”

Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from natural disasters. Our volunteers provide the workforce which enables local communities to address their animal needs following a natural disaster.

With more than 3,800 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, RedRover can deploy its volunteers quickly when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving large numbers of animals. In its 30-year history, RedRover has responded to more than 170 natural disasters and other crises, including Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005; Hurricane Isaac and Superstorm Sandy in 2012; the Oklahoma tornadoes in 2013; flooding in Gonzales, LA in 2016; and the dam crisis in Oroville, CA in 2017.

RedRover will join Animal Investigation and Response (AIR), a group and its volunteers who have been helping the shelter since the tornados hit in April.
