Killeen, Texas (June 17, 2019) – RedRover is on the ground June 13 – 23 to help The Humane Society of the United States provide daily care and comfort related to a large-scale animal rescue effort alleging neglect. Nearly 200 cats and several dogs were removed from the residential property. This is RedRover’s sixth deployment in five weeks.

The animals will be cared for at a temporary emergency shelter in an undisclosed location. RedRover sent 11 RedRover Responder trained volunteers for eleven days to help care for the animals. The RedRover Responders volunteers are traveling from Washington, California, Arizona, Florida and Texas to assist during this crisis.

“RedRover Responders are committed to helping these rescued cats and dogs get the TLC these animals so desperately need,” said Beth Gammie, RedRover’s Director of Field Services. “We are grateful that we could assist the HSUS and hope that we can get these poor animals on the road to recovery and into their forever homes soon.”

Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from cruelty and neglect cases or natural disasters. The volunteers provide a skilled and compassionate workforce which enables a jurisdiction to address animal cruelty and neglect in their community.

With more than 4,000 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, RedRover can deploy its volunteers quickly when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving large numbers of animals. In its 31-year history, RedRover has responded to more than 200 natural disasters and other crises around the country including the Hurricanes Michael, Irma, Maria and Harvey, Superstorm Sandy and many more.
