(August 23, 2016) – RedRover®, a California-based nonprofit organization, will provide shelter management assistance for hundreds of animals who were displaced by the flooding in Louisiana and are now residing at a temporary shelter.

RedRover has deployed their Director of Field Services, Beth Gammie, as well as a RedRover Responders volunteer Team Leader, to the emergency sheltering operation, traveling from Florida and Pennsylvania to help the animals.

RedRover was asked by the National Animal Rescue and Sheltering Coalition (NARSC) via the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) to provide shelter management support at the Lamar Dixon Shelter in Gonzales, Louisiana. Gammie and the RedRover Responders volunteer Team Leader will be at the shelter helping to provide oversight and daily care for the animals.

“We at RedRover were heartbroken about the devastation these floods have brought to the people and pets in Louisiana, and we are happy we can step in to help,” said Nicole Forsyth, RedRover President and CEO.

Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from natural disasters. RedRover Responders volunteers provide the workforce which enables local communities to address the animal needs following a natural disaster.

With more than 3,700 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, RedRover can deploy its volunteers when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving large numbers of animals. In its nearly 30-year history, RedRover has responded to more than 160 natural disasters and other crises, including Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005; the Greensburg, Kansas tornado in 2007; flooding in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 2008; flooding in Fargo, North Dakota in 2009; the Joplin, Missouri tornado in 2011; Hurricane Isaac and Superstorm Sandy in 2012; the Oklahoma tornadoes in 2013; and flooding in San Marcos and Central Texas in 2015.
