ANDERSON COUNTY, SC (August 13, 2013) – RedRover®, a California-based nonprofit organization, has deployed volunteers to care for approximately 150 dogs and puppies living in deplorable conditions on a property in Anderson County, South Carolina.
When Anderson County officials arrived on the property, they found a variety of small-breed dogs suffering from untreated medical conditions and living in filthy cages. Authorities received word about the conditions when a resident contacted law enforcement after purchasing a puppy who was later diagnosed with parvovirus.
Fourteen RedRover Responders volunteers from six states are traveling to South Carolina to care for the rescued animals at the request of the Anderson County Sherriff’s Office. The rescue was a joint effort by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson County P.A.W.S., RedRover, the South Carolina National Guard, and the Humane Society of the United States. PetSmart Charities is donating supplies to help care for the rescued dogs.
Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from cruelty and neglect. RedRover Responders volunteers provide manpower, free of charge, which enables local animal control and law enforcement agencies to respond to large-scale animal cruelty cases. RedRover has over 3,000 active volunteers in the United States and Canada and provides its services free of charge to the community.
The owner has surrendered the animals to law enforcement, who were transported to an emergency shelter where they will be examined by veterinarians and receive any necessary immediate medical care. RedRover Responders volunteers will be responsible for the daily care of the animals until they are placed with adoption partners.
