Shasta County, CA (August 19 – 25) RedRover, a national animal welfare nonprofit, has sent RedRover Responders volunteers to help Trinity County Animal Control provide daily care for animals of local evacuees displaced by the Monument Fire. They were evacuated from their Weaverville shelter due to the fire’s fast-moving path. The team is at a temporary emergency animal shelter in Redding now through August 25 to care for dozens of evacuee’s pets.

Eleven RedRover Responders volunteers and RedRover staff are onsite to help walk, feed, clean, and care for these animals. They are traveling from Connecticut, Oregon and across California to help during this crisis.

“RedRover Responders are dedicated to the evacuees’ animals displaced from the wildfire,” said RedRover Director of Field Services, Beth Gammie. “We provide soft hands and warm hearts when animals are in need and work collaboratively with agencies to help animals recover from trauma.”

Additionally, RedRover offers urgent care grants for emergency veterinary care to pet guardians struggling with economic hardship when pets are in life-threatening situations. Applications are accepted online at redrover.org/relief.

Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are a compassionate workforce specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from natural disasters or cruelty and neglect cases.

With more than 4,600 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, RedRover can deploy its volunteers quickly when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving large numbers of animals. In its 34-year history, RedRover has responded to 243 natural disasters and other crises around the country including the Camp, Carr, and Wall fires, Hurricanes Harvey and Katrina, the Oroville Dam crisis, and many more.
