North Complex fire

Collaborative Care To Heal Devastated Community

Butte County, CA (September 18, 2020) – RedRover staff will be on the ground September 18-24, to help Butte County Animal Control, North Valley Animal Disaster Group (NVADG) and International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) provide daily care for hundreds of animals displaced by the North Complex fire. The North Complex fire is one of California’s top five deadliest fires and now the eighth-largest fire in state history. RedRover staff will be at one of the three NVADG emergency animal shelters where teams are caring for more than 500 animals in total. NVDAG requested RedRover’s help to care for these animal victims at the emergency shelter.

Due to the pandemic, RedRover will not deploy its RedRover Responders volunteers, and instead will send trained staff to help walk, feed, clean and care for these animals.

“RedRover is committed to helping our NVADG and IFAW partners take care of these poor displaced animals during this tremendous time of need,” said RedRover Director of Field Services, Beth Gammie. “We will continue to provide kind hands and warm hearts when animals are in crisis and work collaboratively with agencies to help animals recover from trauma.”

Additionally, RedRover offers urgent care grants for emergency veterinary care to pet guardians struggling with economic hardship when pets are in life-threatening situations. Applications are accepted online at https://redrover.org/relief/

Since 1987, RedRover has responded to more than 200 natural disasters and other crises around the country including the Camp, Carr and Wall fires, Hurricanes Harvey and Katrina, the Oroville Dam crisis and many more.
