February is National Children and Pet Dental Health Month

Sacramento, CA (January 27, 2022) Kind News magazine™ and Early Smiles Sacramento are partnering for National Children’s Dental Health Month and National Pet Dental Health Month – both in the month of February! Kind News is a children’s magazine published by RedRover, a national animal welfare nonprofit. Early Smiles is a unique community-based program of the Center for Oral Health that serves the most vulnerable children in Sacramento County.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, dental disease is the most common medical condition seen by veterinarians. By the time a cat or dog is three years old, they will likely have some early form of dental disease, which will worsen if preventive measures are not taken.

Tooth decay is also the most common chronic disease among children aged 6 to 11 years old, despite being preventable.

RedRover President and CEO Nicole Forsyth said, “Through this partnership we can teach children the importance of maintaining good dental health, for children and also pets, and the role early prevention can play. Through vibrant pictures and articles in the magazine, we can teach kids in a unique and fun way.”

In recognition of both dental health months, the Kind News January/February 2022 issue features fun facts about animal teeth, how to care for them, and the similarities and differences between animal and human teeth.

Early Smiles Sacramento has committed to distributing 6,000 copies of Kind News throughout the Sacramento City Unified School District, along with their dental education resources.
