Magazine Encourages Empathy and Critical Thinking in Children

Sacramento, CA – RedRover recently acquired Kind News magazine™ from HSUS, a staple of the humane education world since 1983.

Kind News magazine is an eight-page, full-color publication that helps children understand and respect animals and think about why treating animals and people with kindness matters. The magazine encourages both empathy and critical thinking in children by celebrating the human-animal bond and helping to motivate children to take action to improve the lives of animals.

RedRover’s President and CEO Nicole Forsyth said, “Kind News magazine provides a great opportunity to deliver  high-quality, humane-themed content in every issue, while also making the learning experience fun and memorable for students.”

Kind News magazine uses engaging articles and short features to emphasize issues affecting animals, how to understand animal behavior and how to care for pets. Its design and interactive content help enhance children’s enjoyment of reading, as well as spark critical thinking and thoughtful discussion.

“The Kind News magazines have been a wonderful resource for our students. The kids love them and are so grateful to our generous donor for providing them!”  – Lisa, 2nd grade teacher, J.W. Reason Elementary

The magazine is aligned with national teaching standards and can be easily integrated into school curriculum. It is currently available in three reading levels: Primary (grades K-2), Junior (grades 3-4) and Senior (grades 5-6). In February of 2018, the magazine will be available in two levels: Kind News Junior (grades K-2) and Kind News (grades 3-6). Kind News can be ordered for an individual child (individual home subscription) or for a classroom. Also, beginning in 2018, there will be five issues throughout the year for both home and classroom subscriptions.

Kind News magazine is the perfect complement to the RedRover Readers program, which helps children understand the emotional states of others, develop the skills needed for empathy and explore the bond between people and animals through select stories and discussion.

Production is already underway for the latest issue, and RedRover will kick off the 2017-2018 school year with a new issue of Kind News this fall. For more information please visit http://www.RedRover.org/KindNewsFAQ
