Shoppers can help UAN provide financial assistance to pet owners for vet care, temporary boarding and transportation

SACRAMENTO, CA (November 13, 2007) – United Animal Nations (UAN), the organization that pioneered disaster relief for animals 20 years ago, has been chosen to participate in Whole Foods Market’s Fire Victims Relief Program.

Until November 30, shoppers at Whole Foods Market stores in Southern California; Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada; and the Phoenix, Arizona area can donate to UAN’s Crisis Relief Grant Program, which is providing financial assistance to help victims of October’s devastating fires in California care for their pets. Shoppers can donate any amount in one dollar increments at check-out.

Thanks to a LifeLine Crisis Relief Grant, a vet was able to treat Spike, who was trapped in the fire but miraculously survived with burns to 90 percent of his body.

“Through our LifeLine Crisis Relief Grant program, we are relieving families of the stress of caring for their pets so they can focus on rebuilding their lives,” said UAN President & CEO Nicole Forsyth. “We are grateful to Whole Foods Market for supporting us and for helping the families devastated by the fires.”

Already UAN has issued grants for more than 30 animals, including Spike, a 15-pound rat terrier who was trapped in the fire but miraculously survived. The LifeLine Crisis Relief Grant is helping Spike’s owner pay for the intensive veterinary care he needs to recover from the third-degree burns that cover 90 percent of his body.

UAN’s LifeLine Crisis Relief Grants can help fire victims with expenses for the following:

• Veterinary care to treat injury or illness caused by the fire
• Temporary boarding
• Transporting the animal to a temporary living situation

UAN will offer qualified individual applicants up to $500 as long as funds are available. LifeLine Crisis Relief Grant Program is supported solely by private donations.
