Nicole awoke to the sound of Coco grinding her teeth. She turned the lights on to find her nine-year-old Pomeranian pawing at her bleeding gums. A piece of her tooth had broken off, and at 4 AM, all they could do was wait for the veterinarian to open in the morning.
They brought her to the veterinarian first thing and took X-rays of her mouth. Not only had she broken one tooth, but another four teeth would need to be extracted. It was difficult for Nicole to see her suffering, and more difficult to know that she had no way of affording the dental surgery that Coco couldn’t wait too long for.
Nicole was the sole provider in her home and had recently had a surgery of her own, from which recovery took longer than expected. Just as her income had been reduced, her car broke down and needed expensive repairs. Coco and her younger brother, 12-week-old fellow Pom Ralphie, had comforted her through the hardest moments, and made sure she and her sons always felt loved.
“Coco is a core part of our family. She’s the daughter I never had and has been with my boys most of their lives. I cannot imagine our family without her.”
They left the veterinarian that morning with painkillers for Coco, an estimate for her dental surgery, and one very important tip – they could apply for help from the RedRover Relief Urgent Care grant program. With a grant and what money Nicole could afford to contribute, Coco’s pain would soon be gone. She applied as soon as they returned home.
FurEver Friends are there for families like Nicole and Coco when your recurring support can make a lifesaving difference in their time of need. Her application for an Urgent Care grant was quickly approved, and Coco’s dental surgery was scheduled for a few days later. While they waited for the appointment, Nicole made sure Coco was as comfortable as possible and enjoying her new, tasty soft food.
When Nicole reached back out to RedRover, she had the best update to share with our FurEver Friends:
“I would like to THANK YOU so much for assisting us with the grant. It really helped our family and Coco during this difficult time. Coco’s surgery was more complicated than initially anticipated; she ended up having seventeen teeth removed! Despite that, Coco has since recovered quite well! While most of her front teeth were removed, she still has her molars, and they are in great shape, so she is lucky enough to return to eating her normal food. She is back to her normal, happy, princess self – and running our household. Thank you again! ❤️”
