RedRover + Purina’s collaborative effort, the Purple Leash Project, has made an impact on so many survivors and their pets, domestic violence shelter advocates, as well as donors. Here is a glimpse into what they’re saying:
“I am the survivor of domestic violence and managed to leave with my two cats – I realize how important this is and hope it will help someone.”
– Survivor and Purple Leash Project Donor
“No woman should feel so scared and alone with nowhere to rest. I know how that feels and I want to prevent another woman from feeling this pain.”
– Survivor and Purple Leash Project Donor
“Currently working in veterinary medicine, I have been profoundly impacted by domestic violence cases. It is one of the most heartbreaking scenarios I face in the field. The Purple Leash Project is a great way towards making a difference in the lives of those who silently suffer.”
– Purple Leash Project Donor
“What a wonderful thing you are doing to allow these victims to bring along their beloved pet.”
– Purple Leash Project Donor
“My dog and I support helping pets and their family escape domestic abuse together. They should not be pulled apart by an already bad situation. Pets give unconditional love and support, that those escaping abuse need. This is probably the best initiative I’ve heard of in a long time.”
– Purple Leash Project Donor
“We are so grateful for RedRover + Purina’s Purple Leash Project grant! This funding will help to open Safelight’s first ever onsite animal kennel this fall, housing survivors’ pets who are escaping abuse.”
– Purple Leash Project Grantee

“Animals can be a crucial source of emotional support and a much-needed sense of normalcy, and we’re delighted to be working with RedRover + Purina’s Purple Leash Project to better support survivors with pets.”

“The women and children we serve at The Women’s Safe House care so deeply about protecting their beloved pets, they often remain in desperate – often violent – situations. With this generous grant from RedRover and Purina’s Purple Leash Project, The Women’s Safe House will become the first domestic violence shelter in St. Louis with an on-site kennel allowing women, their children, and now their pets to begin to live lives free of domestic abuse!”

“Thanks in part to RedRover and Purina’s Purple Leash Project grant, Peace at Home Family Shelter will be able to build the Candy Clark Pet Sanctuary. This sanctuary will provide a safe place for survivors of domestic violence to flee abusive homes with their beloved pets. Animals are not safe in homes with domestic violence and families fleeing abuse are often afraid to leave their pets behind in dangerous homes. This grant will keep families with their pets, prevent animal abuse, and save lives.”
