After signing up to foster a litter of kittens, for the local humane society, foster mom Katie decided that she couldn’t bear to part with two of the kittens – Belgian Waffle and his sister, Eclair. Katie doted on Waffle, sharing:
“Waffle is the sweetest boy. He loves to be held and make biscuits. His veterinary team smothers him in love at every visit.”
When Waffle was just eight weeks old, experienced cat mom Katie began to notice a laundry list of troubling symptoms. At nearly two years old, Waffle weighed only five pounds, and Katie did everything she could to find out what could be causing his symptoms. After many vet visits and tests, Waffle was diagnosed with a sliding hiatal hernia, which would require surgery to repair. The shelter where Waffle had been adopted from had exhausted the funds available for his care, leaving Katie on her own to figure out how to pay for the surgery he needed.
No stranger to the high cost of veterinary care, Katie began applying for any help she could get to help pay for Waffle’s surgery. After figuring out how to pay for the majority of the surgery, Katie applied for a RedRover Relief Urgent Care grant for the last bit of funding needed. When the funding was approved, Waffle came through his surgery like a champ and was sent home to recover with his mom and of course, his sister Eclair.
Thank you for helping make sure “sweet” pets like Belgian Waffle get the care they need!
