For anyone who knows me, training with folks is just about one of my favorite things to do! I absolutely LOVE the opportunity to connect with folks to learn about them, their challenges, successes, and their goals. And, if I do it right, I’m able to create opportunities for conversation and future collaboration between RedRover and our community. We truly can do more when we work together. In fact, that was the topic of my presentation this past December for the Justice Clearinghouse (JCH) – Collaboration: The Secret Ingredient to Housing People and Pets in Crisis!
The Justice Clearinghouse uses an interdisciplinary approach to connect justice and public safety professionals in our community. Providing an important crossroads for organizations who partner on behalf of human services, I’m beyond grateful that our friends at JCH have invited me four times over the last few years to provide webinars on various topics related to keeping animals and the humans who love them safe and together. There are many pawesome things I could call out about JCH, but one of my favorites is their ability to bring together a LOT of people across many fields. I was able to connect with individuals from disciplines such as local animal control, domestic violence support resources, and sheltering.
This year alone, we reached 898 people through two JCH webinars! And reaching people across disciplines is always our goal – let’s get together in the same “space” and talk to each other!Often, our communities have everything they need to tackle the challenges of creating pet housing programs and just need to be reminded on how to access those resources. Organizations need the opportunity to learn from each other, ask questions, discuss challenges, and create shared goals that they’ll work towards together. There’s nothing more exciting and hopeful than being in a space with people who don’t know each other, and witnessing them connecting and sharing. Whether virtual or in-person, it almost always happens. One person says “we need this,” and then others chime in with “we’ve got you!” It’s not magic, it’s community.
“Whatever the problem, community is the answer!”
– Margaret Wheatley, Author and Organizational Consultant
I couldn’t agree more. And that sense of community is just what the team at JCH helps foster (on a global scale).
