Here at RedRover, October tends to be pretty busy for us during DVAM: Domestic Violence Awareness (and Action!) Month, but September also had its highlights as we continued to move the needle forward for domestic violence (DV) survivors and their pets.
The month kicked off with a trip to the to celebrate the launch of the Lindeman Legacy Fund – a statewide initiative to help ensure that at least one domestic violence shelter in every county in New Jersey can house survivors and their pets together. Along with our partners at Greater Good Charities, we’ll support this effort by providing free training and Coaching (technical assistance) to organizations throughout the state.
From there, we joined our partners from Purina to talk about the Purple Leash Project at Pet Night on Capitol Hill. Along with several other organizations including Pet Partners, Michelson Found Animals, URINYC, and HABRI – we had the opportunity to connect with legislative representatives from across the country to talk about the transformative power of the human-animal bond.
We ended the month by providing a Don’t Forget the Pets workshop in Santa Rosa, California. As with all of our workshops, we brought together representatives from animal services, human services, and the veterinary community to discuss the importance of, and how to create pet housing programs.
September was a full-circle month for us here at RedRover – from sharing about the importance of keeping people and pets together, to supporting the ambitious goals of others, to working with organizations as they emBARK on their journey to creating a pet housing program. As always, we know that this work takes a community and we’re excited that you’re part of it!
