The following organizations provide assistance with emergency situations. If additional assistance is offered, it is listed. Please contact us if you know of an organization to add to this list.
American Humane - Second Chance Fund: For rescue organizations and shelter professionals.
American Veterinary Medical Foundation - Application must be submitted by the veterinary clinic. The veterinarian must have already seen the animal for an illness and/or condition now requiring immediate care and whose owners are experiencing financial hardship.
Bow Wow Buddies Foundation - Available to both individual pet owners and rescue groups/animal shelters for urgent veterinary care needs (for dogs only). Grant applications are reviewed on the 1st and 15th of every month.
Brown Dog Foundation - National assistance with life-sustaining prescription medications, other assistance in IA, IL and TN only.
The Pet Fund - Provides financial assistance for non-emergency veterinary care, up to $500 per applicant, for non-routine, necessary treatments.
Pets of the Homeless - Provides pet food and veterinary care to the homeless and less fortunate in local communities across the United States and Canada.
RACE4RAN - Provides transport services to help displaced animals find new homes and can also provide financial assistance for various medical needs on a case-by-case basis.
Semper Fi Fund:Tim & Sandy Day Canine Companions - The Semper Fi Fund provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post 9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their families, ensuring that they have the resources they need during their recovery and transition back to their communities.
Violet's Friends - Helps with urgent care, but review process can take a week so they cannot help with emergency care.
Emotional Support
In Defense of Animals: Animal Activist Helpline - Helps animal advocates deal with compassion fatigue, burnout, and secondary trauma caused by the tragedy-filled nature of their noble work. This is free, anonymous phone and e-counseling for activists, by activists. Counselors are trained in nonviolent communication techniques and most are professional therapists and coaches. Land of PureGold Fountation - Working Dog Cancer Treatment Grant: Applicants MUST have been active, full-time working dogs at the time of cancer diagnosis. Open to US and Canada residents.
