“When my roommate told me that she found two kittens and wanted to bring them home, I was extremely reluctant. I grew up with dogs and never considered myself much of a cat person, and I knew raising two stray kittens would not be easy. Little did I know that Silly would become my best friend, confidant, cuddle buddy, comic relief, and paw to cry on. I have never connected with an animal like Silly.”
Sierra had fully embraced becoming a cat person despite her initial hesitation. Five-month-old Silly and her littermate Billy brought with them an infinite fountain of laughter and joy that was simply irreplaceable. Silly was particularly energetic, mischievous, and fully deserving of her name, so they were concerned when she became lethargic. And when she stopped eating but was vomiting nonetheless, they knew something was deeply wrong with their little girl.
After five days without any signs of improvement, Sierra decided it was time to see a veterinarian. Fortunately, the veterinarian was quick to diagnose Silly with an infection in her uterus called pyometra. Such an infection can sometimes arise when an animal isn’t yet spayed but, without treatment, it is almost always fatal.
It was the beginning of the month, and Sierra had just paid rent. She didn’t have substantial income which meant staying afloat took priority over saving money, let alone being prepared in case of an emergency like this. After paying what she could, Sierra applied for a RedRover Relief Urgent Care grant and was approved the same day, so Silly didn’t have to wait a minute more to have her spay surgery. Two weeks later, it was as if she had never been ill:
“Silly is doing so much better – she finally has her cone off and she’s back to her regularly scheduled program of jumping onto the highest surfaces she can, wrestling with her sister Billy, and knocking my plants over when I leave. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for your help in our time of need. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for helping ensure Silly can continue living rambunctiously and surrounded with love.”
What a difference our FurEver Friends made for Silly and her new family! Your continued support ensures they and hundreds more families can enjoy the many years of love and joy they deserve. We’re grateful to call you a FurEver Friend to the animals!
