What is the 25 by 2025 campaign?
Join the movement to help ensure that 25% of domestic violence (DV) shelters in the U.S. are pet friendly by 2025. As of August’s end, together our efforts have increased pet-friendly DV shelters nationwide to 18.7%! And when you take the pledge, you’ll receive your digital badge and toolkit packed with lots of sample language to use to spread awareness. Plus, you’ll CATch all the latest news on upcoming workshops, resources, and announcements! 🐾
What’s so exciting about the 25 by 2025 campaign?
Lots of things, but there are two reasons why we like this campaign so much. First, we’re encouraging and supporting more DV shelters in becoming pet friendly, with the help of our friends at PetSmart Charities, Purina, and Greater Good Charities. Second, we’re helping to make sure that survivors know these kinds of programs exist. In a recent study, 72% of survivors didn’t even know pet housing programs exist at DV shelters. We’ve got some work to do!
Why a shirt, you say?
Why not! Not only will you look stylish in your “pets are family” shirt, but every time you wear it, you’ll help raise awareness for the 25 by 2025 movement and DV survivors – Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is coming up in October!
When should I wear my shirt?
We’d say every day of the year, but we know that’s a little much. We encourage you to wear it throughout DVAM. Be sure to wear your purple shirt on “Purple Thursday,” October 19th, and share on all your social media channels with the hashtags #25by2025 and #petsarefamily!
