To Joetta, her 13-year-old Dachshund Polly is like a child. In fact, she’s her whole world. “I know it sounds crazy to love your animals like your children, but I can’t help it.” When Polly was diagnosed with breast cancer, Joetta was faced with a decision that no parent of any kind would want to make.
Stuck between the exorbitant cost she was quoted at the veterinarian and her desire to prevent Polly from experiencing any pain or suffering, Joetta was considering taking her precious girl to the humane society to be put to sleep. Though gripped with sorrow, she felt it was the right thing to do since she had no way to pay for the expensive veterinary care.
On that fateful day, Joetta took Polly to another veterinarian to say goodbye and let her go. Fortunately, this new veterinarian quoted Joetta a much more affordable price for Polly’s care and encouraged her to apply for a RedRover Relief grant. With additional support from her local humane society, Joetta was able to get Polly the care she needed.
In reflecting on the fortunate turn of events, Joetta told us, “It was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make being that Polly is one of my babies and has been for 13 years. Polly is alive and well thanks to RedRover.”
