RedRover is excited to announce the addition of the book Rescue and Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship to the RedRover Readers program curriculum. This sweet story is based on the real-life partnership between Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jessica Kensky and her service dog, Rescue.
After a life-changing event, Jessica and Patrick had to focus on their long process of recovery and healing. Jessica’s service dog Rescue played a huge part in that recovery and was the inspiration for this children’s book.
The RedRover Readers program helps children understand the emotional states of others, develop the skills needed for empathy and explore the bond between people and animals through select stories and discussion. Rescue and Jessica blends perfectly with the RedRover Readers curriculum, which currently totals 18 books, including the Spanish versions of Buddy Unchained (Rufo liberado), as well as an empathy book app series, The Restricted Adventures of Raja. RedRover staff had the chance to meet the charming couple who wrote the book last month at a book signing in Sacramento, CA.
About Rescue and Jessica:
Journey through the imagined mind of a newly trained service dog whose life took a different path than he expected and experience just how powerful the human-animal bond can be when he meets Jessica, a girl whose life is turning out differently than the way she’d imagined it, too. Now Jessica needs Rescue by her side to help her accomplish everyday tasks. And it turns out that — together — they find a path forward, one step at a time.
