This Giving Tuesday, give animals like Charlie a second chance

What does “home” mean to you?
When Hurricane Irma forced Trenatee to evacuate her Florida home, she learned the hard way what “home” really is. She and her two beloved dogs, Charlie Deuce and Roscoe, traveled 15 hours to reach safety. Then, within minutes of arriving at their family’s house in Tennessee, Charlie was hit by a car.
Charlie Deuce, an adorable three-year-old Shih Tzu mix, was clinging to life when he got to the vet and had to be resuscitated. He was diagnosed with a ruptured bladder, a hernia, a broken femur, and his hip was broken in three places. Trenatee spent all the money she had to pay for her “baby’s” care, but it wasn’t enough. So she reached out to RedRover for help.
In her plea for assistance, Trenatee told us, “Hurricane Irma is enough of a crisis to deal with, and I may not have a home to return to. But with my two dogs, no matter where we are, we can make that home.”
Thanks to the compassion and generosity of caring people like you, RedRover was able to help Charlie get the lifesaving surgery he needed.
And while our RedRover Relief team was helping Charlie and his family through their emergency, our RedRover Responders program was on the ground in Florida, providing shelter and care for 140 animals displaced by Hurricane Irma.
After 30 years of helping animals in crisis, we’re still amazed by the gratitude of people like Trenatee and the devoted pet owners we met in Florida. We want to make sure we can continue to be there when animals like Charlie – and the hundreds of animals affected by natural disasters and other crises each year – need us most.
