The Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) and the Animal Care & Control Centre – Edmonton (ACCC) are partnering to assist evacuees and their companion animals who have been displaced due to the Fort McMurray wildfires.
EHS is ready to accept displaced animals WITHOUT owners. Animals WITH owners should proceed to Northlands for temporary accommodation. Stray animals that come into our care will be housed indefinitely until they are reclaimed.
EHS has extended an offer of support to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo at the ground level; a fleet of staff and volunteers are on standby to help transport and shelter animals if needed. EHS is also prepared to perform rescue operations for animals left behind in the evacuation.
In addition to Animal Care and Control, EHS is partnering with the following Alberta humane societies (to act as overflow locations if/when EHS reaches capacity):
- Calgary Humane Society
- Red Deer & District SPCA Main Page
- Cochrane & Area Humane Society
A fund has been set up for disaster relief and can be accessed via our website. http://bit.ly/1SOVm0G
EHS will accept any and all donations of food and supplies directly at the shelter, and will disperse donations as needed. If you have a pet currently missing in Fort McMurray, please call 780-229-2939.
