Andy is a beloved indoor cat who, one day when his owner Amy wasn’t looking, snuck outside and had an accident. When Amy finally found him, his jaw was obviously injured and and he was bleeding. Andy’s family immediately took the injured cat to the ER vet and found out that Andy’s jaw was broken in two places, and that without surgery, he would not be able to eat. The veterinarian believed that he may have gotten his head stuck in a fence or possibly been attacked, and Andy needed surgery ASAP.
Amy has had to have surgeries of her own and is unable to work right now per her doctor’s orders. The costs associated with her own medical care, plus the lost wages because she’s unable to work, have made paying for an unexpected vet bill extremely difficult. Even though paying for Andy’s surgery seemed impossible, Amy and her family were determined to help Andy get the surgery that he needed. Amy and her family began their own fundraising efforts, working hard to get the money for Andy’s surgery, but they needed more help. That’s when Amy found out about RedRover Relief.
The RedRover Relief program helps pet owners facing financial crisis when their pets need emergency care. Amy filled out an application right away, and continued trying to raise funds for Andy’s broken jaw repair.
Amy wrote in her application, “Andy is such a sweet, sweet cat that loves everyone. His best friend is our dog. He is loving and so kind. My poor kids will be so sad if I can’t save him. He’s not just my cat – he’s my kids cat. This is such a fixable injury but just so expensive. Please. Any help is so appreciated!”
Our RedRover Relief case managers reviewed Amy’s application for Andy, and got back to her right away to help Andy get his surgery. Amy spoke with multiple vets until she found one willing to work with her to get Andy’s surgery done at a reasonable cost, and the RedRover Relief grant helped to pay for plates to fix Andy’s jaw. Finally, Andy the cat had his surgery, and he’s now recovering well in his home.
Andy may always have a slightly crooked jaw, and he will probably always need to be on a soft food diet, but he is safe and his family is so happy he’s home.
Andy’s family told us, “Thank you so much for your help! We appreciate it so much! You have no idea!”
