Jenny’s buddy Lucky started experiencing episodes where he had trouble walking and kept falling over. After the episodes started he seemed to be tired more often than not. Jenny was seeing her friend, her cuddle buddy, her source of comfort, fade before her eyes.
For the last ten years Jenny and Lucky have been constant companions. From childhood and living with Jenny’s parents, to going to college and moving out on their own, Jenny and Lucky have done everything together. To lose her furry family member to this mystery illness was unthinkable to Jenny.
Jenny took Lucky to the veterinarian and, after a great deal of testing, the veterinarian found that Lucky was anemic. The difficulty walking, the falling, and his constant tiredness were all due to this condition. More testing revealed that a non-cancerous growth had injured his small intestine, and that is where Lucky had been bleeding from.
Jenny did an amazing job fundraising, but the course of treatment that Lucky needed was very expensive. Even with the help of all her friends and family, she couldn’t cover the full cost. Jenny reached out to RedRover Relief for financial assistance, and in her application she wrote, “I am willing to do whatever I can to save his life and help him get better, because I would do the same for anyone else in my family.” With the help of a generous RedRover On-Call Angel, we were able to provide a grant to help Lucky get his lifesaving surgery.
We were more than happy to join together with her friends and family to help save Lucky’s life and preserve Jenny and Lucky’s amazing bond. We received this update from Jenny after Lucky’s final surgery, “Words cannot explain how grateful Lucky and I are to your organization! Lucky has been getting stronger every single day! We go on walks around the block a little every day to build his strength, but now I have to run to keep up with him!”
