Jean was at home cooking breakfast when her son Jason called. While driving to work, he spotted a little beagle lying on the side of the road. He couldn’t just pass by and leave him to suffer, so Jason pulled over, scooped up the limp dog and drove him to a friend’s house. He called his mom and asked if she would pick up little “Festus” and take him to a veterinarian.
From the moment she saw him, Jean immediately bonded with Festus. She could tell he was seriously hurt: Festus had gunshot wounds in his leg and tail, and his leg was broken. This was no accident – Jean suspected that Festus had been abused.
At the veterinarian’s office, it was determined that Festus needed surgery for his leg. Jean and her son did not have the money to save Festus, but they knew they were this little dog’s only hope for survival.
Jean reached out to RedRover for financial assistance. In her application, Jean wrote, “Festus is the sweetest, most precious dog I have ever met. I want him to be happy and give him a good life because he deserves one. He has obviously had a very hard life. I work hard and do well to get by, but I make $9 an hour.”
We couldn’t deny the love Jean already had for sweet Festus, or Jean’s application for help. Thanks to support from caring people like you, we were able to give Jean and Jason a RedRover Relief financial assistance grant, and Festus received the lifesaving surgery he needed. We recently received the following update from Jean: “I cannot tell you how very grateful I am for your donation to helping Festus. He is a very special little fella, has a very special place in our hearts and has brought so much love into my home.”
Thank you for making happy ending stories like this possible. Your support gives animals in need a chance to thrive. Although he can’t speak, we know that Festus says thank you, too!
