When Brutus the cat was rescued from a high-volume shelter in California, his rescuers knew that the odds of finding him a home were stacked against him. He was large, black, incredibly fluffy and old – and he landed in the shelter in the midst of kitten season.
Rescuers knew his charming personality would make him a great companion, but when veterinarians discovered that Brutus had a urinary blockage, they knew he would need lifesaving surgery. They applied for a RedRover Relief grant, and we were able to help get Brutus the care he needed to survive. After his recovery, he was placed up for adoption and waited patiently for his forever family.
After almost a year of waiting in foster care, Brutus, now named Benny, found his forever home! “We had Brutus from March 2011 to July 2012,” his rescuer Barbara tells us. “That’s a long time but worth the wait for the great home he got!”
A cat-lover named Lindsay adopted Brutus, and shares with us how he’s enjoyed adopted life.
“Benny (Brutus) is doing great! In fact, he had a very exciting and adventurous year! Last fall, my job relocated us to Chicago. Although this was a big change, I am happy to report that we are both thriving in the big city! Benny transitioned to high-rise living in stride. He spends many hours on his perch atop the backrest of an oversize chair with a view of the downtown skyscrapers and traffic passing by below.”
According to Lindsay, “He especially enjoys the long snowy winter season that we experience as mid-westerners. The cold weather keep me indoors for long stretches, quietly occupying Benny’s oversized chair with a book or a movie while he snoozes nearby.”
Barbara chimed in to add, “As you can see, he is one lucky boy who is well loved and was placed in the perfect adoptive home.”
Lindsay continued, “Needless to say, Benny is an adored companion and I can’t imagine life without him. I am so grateful to Lapcats and the generous donations from RedRover that saved his life, and I’m sure that all of you will be happy to know that our tough and resilient boy is making the most of his ‘next chapter’ in the Windy City!”
