After losing her home to Hurricane Sandy, Rebeka moved her daughter and their four cats from New Jersey to Florida to live with her parents. Rebeka was looking for a job to support her family of six when another tragedy struck: Einstein, her seven-year-old cat, became gravely ill with a urinary blockage. Rebeka spared no expense to get her “little best friend” the treatment he needed, including clearing out her savings account and driving four hours to get him to the vet, but fell short when the doctor prescribed a costly surgery. She applied for a RedRover Relief grant and was approved just in time to get Einstein’s lifesaving surgery underway. Rebeka sent this sweet note after receiving the grant: “I’m so happy to report that finally, as of today, Einstein is showing definite signs of his former awesome self! Thank you and RedRover so much for being angels to us during our time of need. Many, many people have looked at me like I was crazy when I tell Einstein’s story; I get the ‘but it’s just a cat’ response. Those types of people will never understand how much an amazing animal like Einstein can add/give to one’s life. I’m so happy that you and the folks at RedRover understand.”
