(June 2, 2015) – RedRover, a California-based nonprofit organization, has deployed volunteers to San Marcos, Texas, to care for animals rescued from the devastation of the storm.
RedRover Responders volunteers will provide temporary emergency sheltering for the animals rescued from homes and rising flood waters. So far, RedRover has deployed five volunteers to San Marcos, with many more on active standby. RedRover was asked to provide sheltering assistance for the rescued animals by the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter.
RedRover Responders volunteers traveled from all over the state of Texas to care for the rescued animals at the shelter. The volunteers are providing daily care for the animals, including feeding, watering, cleaning, socialization and coordination with San Marcos officials to reunite any displaced pets with their concerned families.
Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from natural disasters. RedRover Responders volunteers provide the workforce which enables local communities to address the animal needs following a natural disaster.
“We’re so glad we were called in to help these animals and this community,” said RedRover President and CEO Nicole Forsyth. “Our volunteers are specially trained for these types of disaster situations, and they’ll provide not only the daily care, but the love and comfort that animals and families need during this stressful time.”
All of the animals are currently being housed at the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter, where they are receiving food, fresh water, warm bedding and loving care from the RedRover volunteers and shelter staff while they await reunification with their owners.
