Pennsylvania (October 30, 2019) – RedRover is on the ground October 29 – November 6, to help The Humane Society of the United States provide daily care and comfort to kittens, cats and dogs rescued from a large-scale alleged neglect situation in Washington and Westmoreland Counties in Pennsylvania. The animals were rescued from two residential properties. Many of the animals were found in a dilapidated church without apparent access to food or water, while others were found in a dark basement in a Victorian-style house, stacked in crates.

RedRover sent 12 RedRover Responders volunteers for nine days to help care for the animals. These volunteers are traveling from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, West Virginia, New Jersey and Delaware to assist during this crisis.

“We are grateful that we can be there to help the Humane Society of the United States care for these poor animals. Knowing they will be not only cared for medically, but also given the tender loving care they so desperately need, can help them begin their healing process,” said Beth Gammie, RedRover Director of Field Services.

Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from cruelty and neglect cases or natural disasters. The volunteers provide a skilled and compassionate workforce which enables a jurisdiction to address animal cruelty and neglect in their community.

With more than 4,000 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, RedRover can deploy its volunteers quickly when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving large numbers of animals. In its 32-year history, RedRover has responded to more than 200 natural disasters and other crises around the country including the Hurricanes Michael, Irma, Harvey, Superstorm Sandy and many more.
