(June 6, 2015) – RedRover, a California-based nonprofit organization, has deployed volunteers to Posey County, Indiana, to assist in the sheltering and daily care of the 99 neglected dogs rescued from a private property after the dogs were seized from the owner’s property.
RedRover was asked to assist the American Humane Association and PC Pound Puppies, a local animal rescue group, to safely shelter and provide daily care to the remaining rescued dogs who were surrendered to the Indiana organization. Most of the dogs were beagle- and other hound-mixes.
RedRover Responders volunteers traveled from surrounding states to care for the rescued animals at the temporary shelter. The volunteers are sheltering the dogs at the temporary shelter location and providing food, water, cleaning and socialization to the neglected dogs. RedRover has nearly 3,000 active volunteers in the United States and Canada and provides its services free of charge to the community.
Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from cruelty and neglect. RedRover Responders volunteers provide the workforce which enables local animal control and law enforcement agencies to respond to large-scale animal cruelty cases.
“We know these dogs need our help, and we’re glad to give it,” said RedRover President and CEO Nicole Forsyth. “Some local reports said there were dead animals on the property, and many of the other dogs were in desperate need of veterinary care. Our volunteers are going to help make them comfortable and happy on the journey to their new lives.”
